Keeping Your BMW In Good Order

The BMW brand is synonymous with quality and durability, but no car is immune from the need for regular maintenance and check-ups. In this article, we’ll give you some pointers on things to keep one eye on in your Bimmer.

1. Need an oil change?

A high-quality car needs the best-possible motor oil, and the hot weather of Singapore means your BMW needs either an adaptable synthetic option or a high-viscosity oil to cope in the soaring temperatures. Old and dirty oil can hinder your engine’s lubrication protection and that’s bad news for any car.

2. Check the coolant levels

When you check your oil, you may also want to check the coolant reservoir in the radiator. With your car engine switched off and when sitting at a cool temperature, remove the radiator cap and check the coolant level. Be warned, do not attempt this when the radiator is hot.

3. Inspect the A/C

A good BMW driving experience isn’t just a question of keeping the engine cool, but keeping you and your passengers cool as well. If you’re stuck in the downtown traffic of a concrete jungle, there’s nothing like an underachieving a/c unit to make the whole experience worse. If your unit isn’t blowing cold air, then it might be low on refrigerant. You’ll need a professional to check it for leaks and perform any necessary repairs as soon as possible.

4. Tire tread

The consistent heat in Singapore does a number on the integrity of your tires and increases the normal wear and tear that you would otherwise experience in a temperate zone. Check the tread for wear, cracks or any other damage. When tires are not at their optimal inflation/pressure, the risk of a dangerous blowout is increased.

5. The safety features

Driver and passenger safety is of paramount importance. Your BMW no doubt comes with many great safety features as standard like anti-lock brakes, stability control, front- and side-impact airbags, overhead and knee airbags and a state-of-the-art security system. Any compromise on one of the features is a compromise to your own safety, so make checks on their functionality a top priority in any regular maintenance.

As we say, no car is invincible, and maintenance is inevitable. Some of these things you might be confident about checking yourself, but it’s always better to get the opinion of the experts. Luckily, our services here at TG Auto include all the above checks and more. If you’re thinking your car is ready for a checkup, why not give us a call, or better still, just contact us here!
